Most of the underserved children never realise the importance of being healthy and fit. They generally underestimate the importance of good health as they never know the advantages of it. Looking towards the prospective of developing an active healthy lifestyle among the children living in the urban slums, a short initiative was taken by AHANI India volunteers to see the level of enthusiasm among the children when advantages of physical acitivity were demonstrated.
A group of 20 children from Jagannath urban slum of Bhubaneswar residing near a healthcare institution were part of this physical activity. Almost 7 children were students of Class 7 and 8 respectively and rest of the 13 children were students from classes 4 to 6.
The session was held for 60 minutes where various rhythmic moves were taught followed by an intense stretching session for about 10 minutes. The enthusiasm among the children was very high and they were also willing to participate in more such sessions.
These kind of fun as well as informative physical activity sessions can be extremely effective among children residing in urban slums and it can help children understand the benefits of being healthy when a perfect platform is provided to them.
This event was conducted by FighterTeen volunteers Mr. Jyoti Prakash and Ms. Supriya Priyadarshini
